Psychic Scammers Prey on the Poor

Psychic Scammers Prey on the Poor

Jan 11

crystal-ballPsychic scammers prey on the poor, less educated, those with financial problems, the elderly, and people with serious health and other concerns. Scammers try to con you out of your hard-earned money using different tricks to supposedly predict your future. Common psychic scams focus on curse and bad luck spells, energy healing techniques, and putting a spell on another person to avoid a legal dispute, get hired, or fall in love. Psychic readings are offered by email, via telephone, and in person.

What Psychic Scammers Do

Psychic scammers claim that they are able to predict your future and help you change the way things are lined up for you ahead. They offer to do spells, rituals, and prayers using special candles, tarot cards, and other items. Scammers often ask for a small upfront fee but the ultimate goal is to turn you into a big spender. The hook reads like “Psychic reading – $20” but this is only the beginning. They try to convince the innocent victim that there is a serious problem that has to be dealt with immediately or something bad is going to happen (like someone might die). Scammers prefer bank wire transfers and cash rather than credit card payments. The reason is that card issuers offer protection by enabling customers to make charge-backs. They also offer fraud protection on in-store and online purchases. Psychic scammers request cash for their services and once you have invested a considerable amount, they threaten that everything will go in vain unless you keep paying. They may even threaten to put a curse on you if you give up or fail to pay your dues.

Avoiding Psychic Scammers

Cons score well with persons who are emotionally vulnerable and face or are going through financial, professional, family, and personal problems. Scammers pray on persons in poor financial health and those with poor credit and promise to help them sort out their finances. And many believe that palm and tarot card readings are harmless. The truth is that this can cost you big bucks – don’t take psychic readings for a bit of mindless fun.

The problem is that customers are forced to borrow even more to pay psychic scammers. They are usually short of cash and are often turned down by traditional lenders because of poor credit. This means that their options are limited to subprime and bad credit lenders and loan sharks. This makes things even worse because payday and bad credit lenders charge extremely high interest and fees for a short-term loan with a term that can be as short as 2 weeks. High interest charges often make borrowers fall into a spiral of debt, and their financial problems get even worse. And there is more to that. When you call the psychic in a couple of days or they call you back, they might tell you that the curse or spell is stronger than they thought. They can fix it, of course, for a fee which can be as high as thousands of dollars. This is always a red flag, with psychic scammers making you think that they will remove a bogus curse. Whether it is a ritual, cleansing, or curse, they try to trick you into paying a significant amount for nothing.
